Building Master Keys by Better Call Locksmith Toronto

A building master key system gives each suite its own key, gives staff keys to common areas and service rooms, and gives management a key that opens what it must in an emergency. We design, install and maintain these systems for rental buildings, condominiums and multi-unit properties, with restricted keys and documented charts.

When to call us

  • Suite locks are all different brands with no master key.
  • Superintendents carry dozens of keys.
  • Tenant turnover means constant lock changes.
  • A master or superintendent key has gone missing.

How the job works

  1. We survey suites, common areas, service rooms and mailboxes.
  2. We design a hierarchy for suites, staff and management.
  3. Cylinders are installed in phases to avoid disruption.
  4. Keys are issued and logged.
  5. Turnover rekeys use the existing system so the master still works.

Turnover without new locks

In a residential building on a master-key system, each suite cylinder is set so the tenant's key and the management master open it. When a tenant leaves, the suite cylinder is rekeyed to a new tenant key that still works with the master. The door hardware stays, and management's access is preserved.

Restricted keyways add a further layer: tenants cannot have copies made at a kiosk, so the building always knows how many keys exist. For condominiums, the corporation and owners must agree on who holds which keys and under what circumstances management may enter a unit.

What affects the price

The dispatcher explains the service call before anyone is sent, and the technician confirms the total with you before starting any work that adds cost. The main price drivers are:

  • Number of suites and doors.
  • Phased installation.
  • Restricted keyway.
  • Mailbox and common-area integration.

Building Master Keys in Toronto: local context

Toronto's rental towers, walk-ups and condominiums all face tenant turnover and staff changes. A properly designed building system makes each turnover a quick cylinder change rather than a new lock.

What we will and won't do

Suite entry by management must follow tenancy and condominium law. A master key is for authorized, lawful access only.

Frequently asked questions

Can each suite be rekeyed without changing the master?

Yes, that is the point of a master key system.

Can mailboxes be on the system?

Often, with management's authorization.

What if the superintendent's key is lost?

We rekey the affected level of the system in a planned order.
